Help with Slide Audio and Video inside a Marker

May 08, 2014

Hi,

I have a few slides in which audio plays automatically at the start of the timeline. However, I have a marker in the slide with a video inside it. How can I make it so if the learner clicks the video before the slide audio has completed, it will resume when the video is done? I played around with the triggers and pausing the slide sound when the marker is clicked but I cannot have it resume when the media in the marker has finished. Any thoughts or ideas as to how to make this work? Also, when I pause the sound, the animations keep going. I'd really like to have the whole slide pause when the marker is clicked. Is that possible?

You may need to use variables to achieve this properly.

You can create a layer which pauses your base slide, place the marker there and create a triger on the base layer such as "go to layer X when user clicks marker".

In all honesty I would try a different approach altogether though. Instead of pausing the audio why not let it finish and (somehow - depending on preference) block the marker from being activated until audio completes?Hope this helps,Alex

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your quick reply!

I like the idea of blocking the marker from being activated until the slide finishes - how do you suggest I do that though? I want the learner to know it is there and then click it at the end of the slide. I could create a layer that shows once the learner tries to advance to the next slide, or have it appear at the end, but again, i'd like it to be visible but not active I guess.

There are many ways to do that.

  • You can just put an empty hotspot on top of the marker for that period of time, or

  • You can create an extra static state (such as for example a gray "disabled" marker stat) and then change it's state to normal when audio finishes (via a trigger), or

  • You can leave it to a normal state, create a t/f variable with initial value of false, create an info layer ("Please wait until audio ends etc...") which disappears after a couple of seconds, then on the base layer create a trigger to change value of variable to true when audio ends, create another trigger to go to layer "info" when user clicks marker if variable is false.

It's all a matter of your personal preference and taste...
