HeroLand- an adventure built within Storyline (and only storyline)
Nov 03, 2016
Hi all,
It's been an amazing year and with the latest developments from Articulate it's going to be another great one, however I wanted to show you all what can actually be done with Storyline 2 just by itself. This is more of an experiment, but to be honest would (still might) be my entry if there is a Guru challenge this year. But as things might be changing soon, I thought I'd give one last shoutout to one of the best design tools out there.
So here's the link - enjoy!
Sincerely, Rick

Simply brilliant. Had to get to the end!
So this was absolutely amazing, and since I'm not a gamer, was very challenging and I learned a lot.
Did anyone notice the little musical note at the very beginning, on the far left side? Richard used it for music attributes...way cool!
Hey, everyone, in the episode 4 of The eLearning Guys podcast we were lucky to have Richard Hill join us to talk about the development of Heroland.

Yep, same here...just subscribed. I look forward to listening to the podcasts on my long commute to work!
Quite engaging!
As someone who is also into building gamified eLearning, I would love to swap Storyline techniques with you sometime. https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnmeisburg
Outstanding work!
I have a question I hope someone can answer, as I'm not too familiar with Storyline 2. In HeroLand, there are a few instances where the main character approaches an object, and an action is triggered (audio plays, animation begins, etc.) How is the action triggered? Is there built-in functionality where if an object enters the boundary of another object, it can trigger an action? I don't need specifics, but a high-level explanation would be helpful. In another e-learning authoring tool I use, this can't be accomplished without Javascript or widgets. Thanks!

This is amazing! You're such an inspiration Sir.
Wish we could see the full tutorial :)
WOW! That was beautiful, I loved the music, too. Thank you for sharing this.
Wow! Well I feel like a total newbie again now looking at that! ;) Fantastic inspiration to learn more tricks and develop my skills. Well done, it's a really well thought out and executed piece of work.
Wow! I'm relatively new to storyline and have been inspired. Amazing work - thanks for sharing!!

I only jut got to look at this now. Wow just stunning. Amazing work and what is even more exciting is how you shared with us how it was all put together.
Thank you.
Bravo and well done!
Mind blown!
...(that's me being speechless)...
Richard, I don't think that the adventure gamer and instructional designer in me have ever been quite so delighted at the same time. You worked with Storyline's unique features to build your game (the essence of good game design) and also made it informative. Many props!
Also, I love that the Rusty Crow had a total Muppet voice.
The best i'v seen so far !
No way! You used only storyline 2 to do this??? How did you manage the music?
I'm very impressed, really fun!
Just saw this also. Kudos on your artistic design, concepts, music, environment and everything else. I won't get to the castle today but tomorrow is another day! Thanks for all of the sharing that went into this and your process.
Didn't work once I got to the talking bird. The overhead icon (star) did not do anything when clicked. ???? Not sure why.
Hi Maureen, Sorry for the delayed reply. Your supposed to drag the star to the Crow. Hope this helps and it's not to late. There's Quite a bit more to the adventure.
I cannot get this to launch in my browser anymore :(
