Hiding and showing custom navigation
Oct 04, 2018
Hey community!
I have a meaty project with heavy use of master slides and variables to show different menu for different avatars (chosen at the start of the course). I now want to have my custom prev and next buttons hide when using certain master slide templates. I have used a true false variable and then added triggers to all of my master layouts, making them true or false depending on if I want it on or off, when the timeline starts. It isn't working! Any ideas? Is it because the of how a master slide layout timeline interacts/doesn't interact with a normal slide? If so, I guess the easiest way is to manually put the buttons on at a slide by slide level, but I was hoping to be able to change where they link to depending on the avatar chosen at the start.
Phew! Hoping this makes sense!

I personally haven't had a lot of success with custom navigation buttons placed on Master Slides, and as a result usually do as you have suggested and add them slide-by-slide.
If you're using variables to track which avatar has been selected at the start you could still manipulate the navigation to branch accordingly, based on the aforementioned variables.
It sounds as though you probably know how to do this but let me know if not and I'll try to offer some advice.
Thanks so much for your reply David! Great to have confirmation that this is a valid approach. I was reaching the point where slide by slide nav seemed easiest but didn't want to do this in case it would burn me down the track. I'll go ahead with it!
