Hover State Making Layer Disappear

I am trying to make it so that learners can see which lessons they've completed in my course. I'm doing that by creating layers on the Main Menu page around each Lesson box. After the learner views the last screen of a lesson, a Variable becomes True. Then on the Main Menu page, I created a trigger to show the layer that indicates the learner completed that lesson when the Variable becomes true. However, when you mouse over the lesson, it goes to the hover state, and the layer showing the learner completed the lesson disappears. I want it to stick around.

I set it so that triggering one layer doesn't hide other layers, I set the menu page to resume to the saved state, etc. I just want the layer to stick around no matter what once the learner views each lesson, not disappear when they hover over it.

Any thoughts?
