How to limit slide progress with streaming video Web Object

Nov 30, 2011

We are working on placing streaming YouTube videos in some of our courses, however, unlike with a flv video Presenter does not know the length of the video and I have changed the setting to move to the next slide by user clicking. However, I do not want the user to be able to move to the next slide without having watched the video in full.  Is there a way to manually set the time before the user can move forward?

Hi, Don:

You could try the old trick of creating an audio file of silence that lasts for the desired length of time, then import it into the Web Object slide.  This is really easy to do with something like Audacity.

1. Launch Audacity.

2. Do Generate > Silence

3. Enter the desired length of time for the audio track (i.e., however long you want the learner to stay on the slide).

4. Click the Generate Silence button.

5. You should now have a track with a flat waveform.

6. Do File > Export as WAV and save the audio file.

Then, go back into Articulate Presenter/Powerpoint.

1. Do Articulate tab > Import Audio.

2. Double-click the row for your Web Object slide.

3. Browse for your Audio File of Silence and select it.

4.  Click the Open button.

If you have restricted navigation on your course (and that's key), Articulate will make the learner wait on the slide for as long as the Audio File of Silence lasts.

Hope that helps.

Brian
