Hyperlink (URL) problem

May 14, 2014

Hi,
sorry for my english, I am a french student, working on Articulate Storyline since 2 month,

and I have some problem with hyperlink (URL, file is ok)

I explain you my way of working (maybe there is a problem somewhere)

-I receive power point presentation (finish, or almost),

-I import on Storyline,

-I create and synchronise sound

-I activate and add a glossary

-I activate and add resources
-I create a quizz

-I work on design (using templates, or creating mine)

-I lock navigation (they can't access to other slide until they have read, they can't "next" before the end of the timeline (using value and condition) ...)

...

then I share it for preview :
-I send email, with an hyperlink to a share hard drive (share disk) , it link to the  ".....html" file

In this way they can see the training course, try the quizz ... and give me advice

BUT the Hyperlink doesn't work , in effect there is 3 types of hyperlink that I use:

-In the resources tab  (Player>Resources>Add Resource (select a title, an URL, test my URL, save ... )

-in a page, insert a text box, insert a hyperlink ...

-directly from the page coming from Powerpoint after importation

When we click on hyperlinks, nothing happens

After a long time, I understand this :
-If I put the export file from storyline (Publish in WEB, or LMS ...) on my  "document" folder on my computer, hyperlink work

-If I put the export file on my desk, hyperlink doesn't work

-so when I put the export file on the share hard drive (share disk) , hyperlink doesn't work

I want to understand WHY ?

It's not very important, because at the end we will publish on the intranet, in LMS for tracking, but verry strange !

THANKS a lot

If it can help : In my company, they use Internet explorer on windows (no mac, no ipad ...)
note : resources files , everything work, and everywhere

Hi Samir! How are you entering the hyperlink? Here is an article about linking to files via the resources tab in Studio. (This works similarly in Storyline.)  Basically if you publish your course and then move it somewhere else using a relative hyperlink instead of an absolute hyperlink will help prevent the links from breaking.

I come back with the same problem, please help

what is the difference between an absolute or relative hyperlink ?

I use different hyperlink :

-With the player, ressources, click here to start adding ressource items ... , I select a title : google, an URL : google.fr for example ...

-Using triggers, jump to url ... when user click this text or box ...

-Ctrl+K (insert hyperlink ...)

-select a word, right click, hyperlink ...

https://www.google.fr/

is an absolute hyperlink no ?

the problem is that I can't click on the hyperlink, nothing happens !

the only way is to remove the publish file to "my documents" , and it's work

Why ?

thanks a lot !!!

Hi Samir

An absolute hyperlink references the whole URL, e.g www.bbc.co.uk/news/london/this-happened-in-the-west-end-today therefore it is 100% specific to that page/article/object/document/whatever.

A relative hyperlink references only the second part of the URL because the first part is assumed/assigned already. E.g london/this-happened-in-the-west-end-today might be the relative URL that that I might use if I was creating a new article on the BBC's News section. The tool already knows I'm referencing www.bbc.co.uk/news so it only needs the remaining part of the link.
