Ideas on How to Create Chapters in a Video Presentation

Feb 16, 2012

Hi,

I've been asked to convert a two hour video presentation from VOB to MPEG so we can save it to a video platform that students can then access. Does anyone have suggestions on how I might be able to add chapters to indicate when the topic changes in the presentation? I was hoping to figure out a way that students can skip ahead to a topic of interest in the presentation. The presenter doesn't take any breaks so it's not possible to cut into the video to create a chapter. The only thing I can think of is to add a slide at the beginning of the presenation with timestamps of where new topic starts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

Phyllis

Hi Phyllis,

You can use Handbrake to convert the vob to an mp4. Once the video is an mp4, you can use a video editor (Format Factory, QuickTime, Windows Movie Maker, etc) to create the individual, smaller movies for each chapter. From there, you can drop each video clip (chapter) on its own slide in PowerPoint.

That's a lot of info so let me know what video program you have access to and I'll break things down a bit if you need me to.

But it's an easy process:

  1. convert VOB to mp4 using Handbrake
  2. edit mp4 to create a series of short segments, chapters
  3. insert into PowerPoint via Articulate > Insert > Flash Movie
