Are you thinking some type of blink or change in color? You could look at changing it's state based on certain slide timings or choosing to physically stop showing the object for a period of time on the slide and show a new object instead in the same location. I wouldn't recommend the latter for a button, but an image that they don't have to click on would likely work out ok. Another idea is too look at using a marker as they have a built in pulse animation.
Also in terms of how your slide is advancing, do you have it set to not allow the user to continue until they timeline ends? You could look at even disabling navigation buttons till closer to the end of the timeline ensuring that folks don't navigate away too quickly?
Perhaps you'll also want to share a copy of that slide or even a screenshot of it here so that folks in the community can offer other ideas.
What I have done to get a blinking effect (although not for a button but should work the same) is create 2 layers on the slide. Set the layers to a duration of 1 second each and to show the other layer when the timeline ends, effectively creating a loop. Then set the slide to show the first layer when the timeline starts.
You could combine this with animations to get the effect you require, or simply have 2 different versions of the button/object.

Another option would be to add cue points to your timeline that toggle the state of the button back and forth between bright and dim.
