Importing a course from PowerPoint

Jan 22, 2021

Hi,

I have built a course containing mostly quizz questions in PowerPoint which I want to convert to Storyline. Currently I have some 400 slides in the course of which some 350 are questions divided into 20 subtopics, and approx 50 is more administrative slides; as headerslides for the different subtopics, a few help and info pages, the starting page etc. The questions themselves are one question per slide which also includes the answer options, and the answers are revealed as a circle around the correct answer as the user clicks ahead. My question is: Is there a way to transport this over to Storyline in an effective way? If I just import it as a PowerPoint, the slides, including the question as well as the answers plus the indication of what is the answer (revealed as the circle around the correct answer after click) will be treated as any plain slide. However; I would like to have a process where questions are copied more swiftly into Question banks. However, I can not find an easy way to do this.

What I probably therefore will have to do is to make a Question bank per each of the 20 subjects, then copy each and every question per subject over to "new question" in that question bank, then take each of the 4-5 answer options per question and copy each of them into their respective answer box, and then mark which one is the correct answer. At least then the 20(+-)Question banks will fill up. I then make scenes from a main menu which links to the sub topics, which again adresses the different question banks.

Is this the way to do it or is there a better / more time effective way..? Appreciate any help or hint... :-)

Hi there,

I am afraid I am not aware of any way of automatically converting PPT slides to quiz slides in SL. The import simply brings through the slides as a set of images.

On top of that I've had issues with text boxes getting imported as images leaving me to have to recreate them in SL or re import them.

Sorry for being the bearer of bad news. Feel free to reach out if you want some extra support.

Hi,
If you have the questions in Excel or text there may be a way:
Storyline 2: https://articulate.com/support/article/Storyline-2-Importing-Questions

Other versions, 360 etc. not sure about that : You could try contacting Articulate support directly, the engineers may have insight into possibilities.  I have done the copy and paste method you lay out, it seems to be the most effective way and not really any more time consuming than 'import normal slides'  given all the fixes (slide by slide) that are needed in terms of  transitions, animations, smart art etc.

I did find when I did it that setting up the question banks properly was key: https://community.articulate.com/articles/five-things-you-should-know-about-storyline-question-banks
