In search for an LMS

Jul 05, 2019

Hi everyone, i have just joined a new company and we are using Adobe Captivate as an LMS. I have worked with blackboard before and i loved it. Due to the fact that you cannot do discussions, live meetings and so on, on Adobe Captivate, we seek a highly competitive LMS which can be paid per user or usage. Currently we design our courses in Articulate Storyline 3 and a bit of GoAnimate (Vyond). Please advise, thank you.

This is a topic that comes up quite frequently on the forums, and there is no easy answer.

Researching and selecting a LMS takes a lot of time and effort as it is a major decision with huge organizational implications. Once you have selected a LMS you are pretty much stuck with it.

Over my career I've had the misfortune to move from one LMS to another 3 times. If you are not interested in keeping learner data, then it easy as it's just a question of porting your SCORM courses to the new LMS. However, if you need to move the learner data such as course completions, then you are in some serious trouble.

As the needs for each organization are completely different, you need to compile a very thorough and comprehensive requirements list that will inform your research and decision making process. This list will help you to immediately eliminate some LMS's which is a good start.

My current employer spent about 6 months of intensive effort to select a LMS that fit our exact requirements. Even then the "best" choice did not check off all of the boxes.

Here is one resource worth looking at to get you going:
