inspiration?

Jul 02, 2012

I'm in a rut.  I also have to burn 16 hours before I go on vacation so I'm doubly unmotivated this morning.  So I thought I'd wander around the web looking for new things...

Community, got anything new regarding:

• approaches to opening slides - any examples would be wonderful on something other than "Welcome to"or vicarious experience type of stuff

• low-fi methods that have big impact - I have a hipsters urge toward development lately

• new tech/tools that are interesting  - I've got one I'm messing around with now:  http://www.nevermindthebullets.com/?fbid=WwC-cdiXTII

• or anything else that seems nifty?

What wonderful things are going on out there?

Hey Melissa,

  • I am going to be using xtranormal.com soon to create videos!  We do not have it in our budget to create videos with real actors, but we do have a lot of volunteers to lend their voices around the office.
  • Use Photography techniques as in inspiration - If you use photos, turn the whole thing black and white but leave the subject in full color.
  • Challenge yourself to do one thing differently in every course you make.
  • Remember to always have fun!  The more fun you have building a course, the more fun your learners will have taking it

xtranormal is fun.  I've been wanting to experiment with stop animation and lego people  as well but don't have an application for it just yet.

It's not the challenge that is the creative block right now - I've just kinda hit a "been there, done that" wall.

Maybe a Stefan Sagmeister sabbatical is in order....

Hey, Mo:

A few thoughts:

1. Skip the intro and throw your learners into a challenging scenario: I recently created a healthcare scenario which described an accident regarding medications that had (almost) tragic results. If the scenario relates to the main topic, they'll get why you are doing it. Then you can do the intro stuff after the scenario.

2. Do you have a video camera? If so, shoot some rough video of you playing some lesson-related character (perhaps your a SME or a cranky buyer or inexperienced sales rep or whoever). Create questions so the learner has to analyze your behavior.

Anyway, a few thoughts...Have a good time on vacay. --Daniel
