Interactive Map - Studio

Aug 22, 2014

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a new hire module and want to include an interactive blueprint style map of our building. The module itself is being done in Presenter and I'm trying to decide how to incorporate the map. I haven't started it yet. I toyed with a guided image or hot spot interaction in Engage, but I don't know if there is a better way. I want to make sure the image is large enough to make out the various areas and then maybe have pop-up boxes with an actual photo and basic description of each area. Ideally, I'd like to have the interaction available outside of the module as well, hosted on Google Drive with a link through our intranet. The good news is we only have one story, so that simplifies things a bit! Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you!

Hey Laura!

Thanks for posting your question. Sounds like a fun module to work on! I like the idea of an interactive blueprint of the building. Right away I thought "Engage" and I honestly think that is probably the simplest approach for this type of interactivity. I think the "Labeled Graphic" interaction style might actually be the best because you can put the markers at the correct spots on your map, and then add images of the location (as you mentioned you'd like to) along with a text description, for each item.

Here's a quick tutorial on adding a Labeled Graphic in Engage. And here's an example of a completed Labeled Graphic interaction I created awhile back, just to get your creative juices flowing! Good luck!

Hi Nicole,

Thanks! I've put something together in Engage that I think will probably work. I also came across Daniel A's PowerPoint virtual home tour for one of the challenges a few weeks back where he used the mouse-over function you featured in a recent blog post. I'm going to try to put something together that way, as well, and see which works best. Much appreciated!
