internship

Apr 29, 2013

Hello, I am Msc Student in E-learning Studies  and I participate in LLP/Erasmus Placements program and I would like to do practical training in a elearning company/institution in Europe but it is very hard to find one.During my studies, I have used Learning Management Systems (Moodle, LAMS), course authoring tools (courseLab, articulate), video tutorial authoring tools (camtasia), prototype tools (Microsoft blend) etc.

Any advise or help?

Hi Dimitra, and welcome to Heroes.

OK....

What have you done so far? Who have you contacted?

What I would do first is have a Plan A, (and a Plan B).

In Plan A I would decide which "bit" if eLearning you want to have an internship in - design, LMS, video, augmented reality? What?

I would then draw up a list of each group.

I would then CALL, not email, and try to get hold of someone in HR - and ask them if they have opportunities.

Be VERY clear about what you want - paid, unpaid, part-time, a specific time period etc.

If your Plan A / 1st choice does not work out - go to Plan B, and continue until you get a result.

Be specific about what YOU have to offer THEM.

Hope that helps - please let us know how it goes.

Hello Bruce,

thank you for your reply. So I have contacted with a lot of companies via email (I cant afford all these international calls). Also, I have informed them that I am interested in instructional design and I have specificated about the time (September, 3- 6 months) and the placement is unpaid. But it doesnt work. The truth is that I want very much to get hand on experience because it will be very usefull for me. :(

I would suggest you go through your university if this is an internship.  Additionally, please note that most people who are in charge of an internship program through corporations have to run them through their HR (Human REsources) group due to liabilitiy, selection, etc.  You state now that you want hands-on experience because it will be very useful for you.  You need to determine how it benefits the company to bring you on.  What do they get out of having you there as an intern?  Also, as Bruce said - emails are usually deleted or filtered by many decision makers.  You may want to post your information on linkedin.com as well.  Good luck!
