Language course

Dec 21, 2015

Hi Community

I'm starting to create a language course in Storyline, the class is given by a video-teacher with a visual explanation aside.
I would like to know things I should consider when making this type of course.
You know courses that I can see for inspiration?

Thanks!

Hi

a couple of things spring to mind.  One is the Translation tool that might be useful.  You might want to use if to replace the course text into different languages?  (e.g. create the course in English then swap for French/German etc).

We considered doing something with a virtual tutor recently, which is feasible.  The way we considered was filming the tutor with a green screen background and removing that background using an old version of Adobe Premier or After Effects  and saving as FLV file with transparent Alpha channel (newer versions no longer support FLV). The FLV file can then be inserted into Articulate but would only work in Flash output.  In HTML or Mobile Player would have a black rectangle.  There are online tools that can also create a virtual tutor or talking animated character.

More general tips might be to use the slide Notes function (with Notes tab in the Player) to provide alternative language support?  You could also consider an options screen up front to select your language which changes a variable.  Later on the course slides, that variable is used to decide which layer to show, with a different language on each layer. (e.g. slide triggers to show the layer with a condition IF variable language = French)

Good luck with your project
