Large Organization eLearning Deployment Feedback

Jul 18, 2019

I’m looking for some feedback/help/therapy from others who push out training to large groups of their employees at one time. I’m in the middle of a company-wide training to 4 different groups of people totaling around 5,000 employees and 50+ locations around the US. Each of the 4 courses works and functions properly in Storyline 360 (multiple tests), tests properly in the SCORM cloud (multiple tests) and complete as they should on our Success Factors LMS which is all we are tracking…did they pass the quiz and complete the course.

A few thousand employees have completed the training with no known issues. But for some, maybe a few hundred, there have been issues with the courses not completing, the course not resuming where they left off, hanging up at the results page and not continuing, and other strange issues that I just cannot replicate on my end.

For some of these issues, I believe it is a system error on their end or an individual end-user error. We have some employees that share computers, I have no idea what browser they are actually using, or they just can’t explain in detail to us what happened other than “I completed it and now it says I didn’t.” There are so many variables for each of these people and frankly for each of these locations to count and of course, I get the “Well why is this happening?” I guess I'd be more concerned if nobody was able to complete the courses. But, many have and have had no issues.

While I understand there are always going to be some users that will have technical issues when you deploy to this many people at one time, I guess I’m looking for any similar instances you may have experienced or anything you learned along that way that might explain some of these issues. Thanks.

Hi Rob!

Thanks for posting your question here in the community. That's a good one!

One thing you might consider is creating a technical questionnaire or form that you have all the people fill out who have problems. Maybe it could address all of the system requirements for Articulate 360 as well as make sure they have all the system requirements required to run/use your LMS system. You could also ask questions like

  • what type of computer are they using?
  • what browser and version are they using?
  • what is their desktop resolution and other settings?

Maybe gathering this information in a survey specifically from the people who are running into the issues could help you pinpoint what's going on.

one of the issues I see the most with this sort of complaint is the serial system sleeper. as people finish something they slap the lid closed and move to the next room or meeting and often sever the connection with the LMS server, and don't give the scorm a chance to report back. once the session has timed out any progress is lost, and 404's are the order of the day. best way to deal with it is to template out a mail explaining this, as well as including some narrative before the quiz etc, finish the session and close the course in order to track your progress...
