What is the purpose of the rather tall 'camp fire' image at the top of the new Discuss page? If it's meant to be annoying it does a great job. This image serves absolutely no purpose and is 500+ pixels tall. One my screen (1440*900), I have to scroll down every time I want to see the recent posts.
I share your opinion about the images. The front page as well. On my retina screen, I need to scroll to get to the good stuff. We try really hard to get folks out of the habit of adding decorative elements when these elements make a product less functional.
The images are well done. I really dig the style. But I'd prefer to get right to the place I want to be.
Another thing I think would help. In the view below, it's clear who originated the post but not the last response. I think it might be helpful to see who last responded. I'll often use this as a mental marker to see quickly if drilling into a post will be helpful. If it's a post I recognize and the last post is me, probably not. If it's one of the staff, possibly not. The space below the Last Post clock could be ripe for adding by XXXXXX XXXXXXXX.

The site uses a fairly vanilla theme of Bootstrap. I'm sure the image will change in due time.
Thinking the same. It's 1186 pixels from the top of the menu to the bottom of the image on my laptop.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.

BTW, my comment also applies to the image on the Download page.
Hi Steve,
We have added the name under the last post timestamp just as you suggested. Thanks for the feedback!
