Lightbox changes between classic and modern player
Jun 04, 2019
Hi all,
A client gave me a .story file that someone else created for them to make some changes, and it has lightboxes, which are new to me. I changed the player from classic to modern and the lightboxes are showing up misaligned. I'm using Storyline 360.
The lightbox shows up quite far left, not directly over the original slide. Is this the way they are supposed to be displayed? The problem is that when the lightbox slide is so far left, the close X on the top right is quite far away, and the learner might not see it. Is there any way to modify the placement of the lightbox slide in the modern player? It looks strange.
Sorry I can't show you a screenshot as the client hasn't given permission.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Beth

Is it doing this when you preview in 360, or once it's published? I've noticed this happens in preview mode, but once published it performs normally.
It's doing it once it's published in Articulate Review. Do you think I should test publishing it on the LMS and see?
Hi Beth,
Yes, I would definitely publish and test on your LMS to see if you're still seeing this issue. If you are, the quickest way to resolve this it is to have our Support Team take a look. You can submit a case here.
In the meantime, if there's anything else I can do to help, please let me know!
Thanks, I'm sorry I can't share the file due to a confidentiality agreement. The course will sit on a website only apparently, no publishing to an LMS. They have just decided to live with it. It definitely does look like the standard view for lightboxes with the modern player as I have since seen other threads discussing this. Thanks anyway!
Hi Beth,
If it's helpful, our support team can sign an NDA before you share the course with them privately. Another option would be to replace any confidential information with lorem ipsum filler text before you send it over to them. You can submit a case here.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
I have a similar concern with the lightbox and the modern player and users not knowing where to click the X to close out of it. Is it possible to add a pulse or other feature to the lightbox close button, similar to what icons have?
Hi Brian,
Unfortunately, that’s not currently possible. You could add an arrow on the slide itself pointing to the corner where the X is and add a "click to close" message. If you have time to log a feature request and tell us more about your specific needs, that would be super helpful!
Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with.
Okay. Thanks, Allison!
You can also add a custom close button on the lightbox slide itself if you want to make the close option more visible and don't want to go with the arrow and close message. Use the close lightbox trigger command on the button.
Thank you Nancy for revealing that this was an option! I think this means that there would then be two visual ways to close the lightbox? Might get a bit clunky. Can you delete the "default" way and only have the new manual way?
What I have done was to replace a Lightbox trigger for a Jump To trigger to an isolated slide, and the Close button was programmed with a Jump to Previous Slide trigger.
As SL considers the last visited slide as your "previous slide", it always brings the user back to the slide in which you clicked to see the "Lightbox".
No, you can't delete the default so there would be two in this case. It is not too clunky especially if you have a nice design and it is better than having a user get stuck.
