linking to PDF

Sep 18, 2013

Hi, sorry if this question has been answered but the Search feature on this site is not working for me right now -- no matter what I type in (even "layers") It says, "No Results found."

Anyway, I want a PDF file I have created to open when users click on a particular link. Do I put the PDF file in the existing published output in the external files folder and then link to that, or do I just link to it wherever it is on my computer and then let Articulate pull it in and do what it needs with the file when I publish it?

This is not a Resource -- this is a link in the actual course that I want to use to open the PDF.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Anne!

Thanks for posting and sorry for the issue you're having with the Search feature!

You don't have to put the PDF file into the published output. You can just hyperlink to it in the Storyline document (make sure it's a local file) and then Storyline will do the rest and automatically put the PDF into a folder as part of the published output files. You can hyperlink from a shape, a button, text, pretty much anything. Here's a tutorial on adding Hyperlinks in storyline: Adding Hyperlinks

Additionally, here are a few past forum discussions on the topic of linking to PDFs that might be helpful:

Hope this helps  you out! If you need further assistance or have more questions, please let me know!

Hi Anne

If it's just a one page PDF such as a form or reference document that you need them to see it is possible to use a scrolling panel. This can work really well for one pagers. There is a great 'how to' screen recording here from Stephanie https://player.vimeo.com/video/149073974 For larger multi-page documents the methods referenced above by Nicole tend to work better.
