Long trip and looking for some reading suggestions

I was wondering if anyone had some good suggestions for off line reading  (PDF or Ipad friendly) on instructional desgign or e learning that they can suggest.  I am looking for very practical reads, not a hugh amount of high end theory.  Topics like

• great desgin examples
• PDf's of great e learning courses ( i learn by looking and 'borrowing' great design themes)
• stories of workplace elearning horror stories.

I just want a lot of material to make a long trip shorter.
