Have you see this article on getting the assets you need for your course? There are links to a bunch of websites where you can find anything from backgrounds, to icons, to fonts.
https://openclipart.org/ It's the one-stop shop for free (as in beer and as in speech) SVG graphics. One could spend hours (if not days) looking through it's repository which I also think is downloadable (I know on Debian Linux there already is an openclipart package with all the clipart already in their repository).

http://pixabay.com/ has some free .svg files in their database. Plenty of pictures too!
