Memory Multiple Choice Testing

Nov 14, 2017

Hi There!

Any suggestions to design Multiple Choice questions where an image and text is presented to the student for a few minutes, than the image is hidden from view.  Next step,  several questions will follow to challenge the test taker's memory related to the image (s).    I am new in to Storyline and quiz design.   Any strategy is helpful.  Thanks

If you are new to storyline I would stick with the built in quizzing functions until you get a handle on how all of the triggers and variables work. You're a little stuck with the feedback layers they give you (not a lot of customization options) but it will allow you to build significantly faster.

I put together a quick example of what something might look like. I used a layer with the picture as a type of mask. You can then use the timeline for the picture to determine how long you want it to be visible. The first question sits on the base layer of the first slide and is revealed once the mask is taken away.

The way the built in questions work you can only have one per page, so I duplicate everything on the first page except for the question and create a smooth transition to slide 2 where I present question 2.

HI Allison using games to challenge the test taker's memory retention is a wonderful idea for the actual lessons.   I am preparing Law Enforcement test preps that concentrate significant resources to memory testing.  For the multiple choice tests, this approach may not work that well if I am offering more than 50 MC Questions.  Thank You for taking the time to share this information.

Hello Jesse, thank you for sharing and taking the time to develop the two slides.  This is very useful and I studied your work well and I will attempt to duplicate the steps.  I attached a few files to show the sample images that can be included in the memory quiz.

From looking at the slide style that was use, I am only using a trial subscription, and I don't think that these slides are accessible to trial only users.   The triggers and timings, I followed a good instructional video in Lynda;com and you tube has a lot of videos covering this set of timing effects.   If anything else that you want to share, is welcome.  Thanks
