my experience with articulate..

Nov 25, 2011

So I am brand new to this studio of tools.I am really enjoying it. So far I have these observations (things to learn). I am likely to find my own answers but I want to track them here.

  • Quiz: Who designs a default setting for 10 points? From an educator's point of view that is 10 decision points. The default should be 1.
  • Quiz: The matching feature creates a scroll bar. That needs to be contrasted differently from the rest of the skin. Ideally, no scrolling should happen. The moment a learner things.. how come I can't do this action, then the quiz shifts to problem solving the software and not the quiz questions. Not good for students with attention issues.
  • Quiz: is there a skip and come back to feature or is there a locked in mode.  Test taking philosophy suggests that learners go to the questions they know first to build confidence and reduce anxiety. The software should allow for this and provide a prompt.
  • Quiz: the spinning ball of death in hotspot quizzes.  That needs to go. For mac users, that is equated with a frozen process.  Also, it is too small and doesn't contrast well.
  • Locking play for interactive: great for the first run through but for review, learners would find that irritating.

Inserting movies

  • Why are there  sets of controls? top, the movie and on the skin/  ( I used a different piece of software to suck a movie of youtube).
  • Timing of the movie.. It is difficult to figure out how to time the movie control play and the skin play time

Skin navigation

  • seems a little busy. I will need to find one with simple controls. (I haven't played with skins yet)

Uploading to Vexxhost:

  • Still very confusing .. I am not that techy with ftp files.

Hi Bonnie

I have used quizmaker for a few years now my thoughts on your observations are

Q1, 10 points , 1 point  I dont really care I am more interested in the percentage

Q2 You only get a scrollbar if you use to many matching objects, I try not to have a scrollbar at all, so split into two questions if necessary

Q3. You can do both, normally submit one at a time or all at once will allow this, also you can evenleave the quiz and return if you need to (really need an lms for this to work properley)

Q4.  Never really noticed this, I use a Mac everyday, will have a look next time I use it

Q5.  It would be good if you could unlock once the user has viewed it once, hopefully the next version of sudio will allow this

Q6. I think controls for the movie are good, much better than inserting an flv into studio, most users are used to having seperate controls for videos, e.g. youtube

You can skin your player if you have acess to the SDK, all our courses use some form of simplified skin

It may be worth putting in a few feature requests to articulate of your points, welcome to articulate studio, the community is a great place to learn things, some might say it is the best part of studio
