Need to put in pass and fail slides in - but in a slide layer? How?

Jul 18, 2017

Really need help with this. I'm not very good at variables and can't seem to get my head around it. I've finished my storyline file but need to put in correct and incorrect variables so the pass or fail slide layer appears at the end of question 8.

Can somebody help me with it and possibly explain what I need to do? As much as I want someone to do it for me. I need to know how to do it myself for future reference :)

file is attached here.

Thank you so much!

Hi Rebeca

see attached update to your file.

I have created a number variable called questionsCorrect.

On each correct button of each question I have a trigger to add +1 to the variable.

On the final layers of Question 8 I have triggers to show pass layer if variable >=7 and show fail layer if variable < 7.

You have a retry button on the fail layer which to me means more than one attempt even though in your post above you say 'one attempt'?

Hi Wendy,

Yes you are quite right, 7 answered correctly.

Oh I see I misunderstood what you meant by attempts. Yes it's unlimited attempts if the user keeps failing they can try again and again until they pass. Is that possible?

Also thanks for explaining how the variables work, it's starting to make more sense to me.

Hi Wendy

For our VLE (Moodle) that we use at the college, students need to be able to access the file. SCORMING the file is the easiest way for students to access it and seeing who has accessed it in the reports.

I'm afraid the looping it still happening on the first question. It's really mind boggling why it's doing it. It only happens when I try to publish it. Even when it isn't SCORM'd I've tried web publishing and still doing the same thing.

Hi Rebeca

The flash version works fine for me Internet Explorer and Chrome. However IE is not a supported browser for SL2 HTML5 output

Here are the technical specs for SL2  to view flash and HTML5 output. Not sure what output you are using in Moodle. But as i said above, you don't have a result slide that is sending any information to the LMS so not sure how you are reporting.

Wendy Farmer

I don't know why the html5 output is looping.

What are you trying to capture in the LMS just the number of slides viewed or an actual result?

If you just want slides viewed you don't need a result slide but if you are trying to capture results yes you would.

i have republished to LMS using number of slides viewed with Completed/incomplete tracking and uploaded to Scormcloud - it is working as expected. You can test in scormcloud here

GCDigitech .

Both capture the number of slides and result.

I've tried out the link you sent me, however it's still looping. I've signed up for a free trial of 360 to output it in a newer version of storyline, however it's doing the same looping.

Is there something in the triggers or slide layers that's making it want to loop?

Thanks

Hi Rebeca

here is a Peek video of it working in Scormcloud. I can't say why it's looping you may need to log a support case with Articulate.

As for capturing a result - you don't have any quiz slides in the file that can be assigned to a result slide. You would need to convert your 8 question layers to quiz slides - recommend Pick One freeform - these 8 slides would then be selected in the result slide and would report a score to the LMS.

You can only report either a result or number of slides viewed - not both.

Hi Wendy,

Wow you managed to get it working. How come it's looping for me then? I'll see what articulate says.

I'm going to to try and do a quiz slide for my 8 questions to see if it would solve the looping.

I see, I'd probably do a result slide then.

Thank you for your help. Hopefully get to the bottom as to why it's looping!

Hi Wendy,

That's a pain, they should preview in HTML5 always. But then again it's an incentive to get 360. Am I able to publish it out to flash from SL2?

I'll give that go in 360, I've put in a support case to articulate so they can have a look.

If they solve it, I'll let you know in the meantime for future reference.

Many thanks
