Need your valuable feedback on my Time Management course (Beta).

Dec 25, 2013

Hi,

This is first time, I developed an e-learning course on Time Management by using Articulate Storyline and, have tried my level best to follow ADDIE's model with few drops of human psychology.  Course is all about time management and it's benefits.

I didn't completed this course yet but, want to share it's beta version with you so, with your feedback I'll get to know whether I am on doing well or not.

Please please please give me your valuable feedback and let me know how much effort i have to add in it?

Hi Mohammad, I have had a brief look through it, I always think people are brave posting their examples for review, so thank you for posting the course.

Here are a few things that will help improve this course

  • Remove the previous button from the first slide
  • Change the default blue buttons, be consistent with colours, sometimes your speech bubbles have no fill, other times they have a gradient
  • Do some design work on your questions
  • Allow me to navigate using the menu
  • When using the characters I hate to see them floating in mid air with legs missing, it would look much better if you anchored them to the bottom of the slide, or used the full character
  • I like the line drawings, but you then confuse the issue by using the characters and the icons, I would choose one style and go with it
  • Some slides are locked, other are not, along with the restricted menu, I found it difficult to move through the course
  • Your course is a bit inconsistent in the use of fonts, I would stick with one fonts for heading and one for body text.  The font on your feedback is horrible and difficult to read
  • Your course could benefit from some onscreen instructions, I failed the second quiz and got stuck but nothing prompted me to try again  (the first one let me move through without answering any questions).

I would focus more on conveying a message rather than trying to use all the features of Storyline in one course.  I would also look at the four principles of sound design

  • Contrast
  • Repetition
  • Alignment
  • Position

Hope this helps

Thanks for posting, a great first time effort, and I agree with what Phil said - posting here is useful, and brave for anyone.

So - comments....on two levels.

1. Design.

Pretty much agree with everything said re design. You need to try now to look at this from the learner's perspective.

The completely linear flow is not engaging I'm afraid - for example....having to slide a slider to access an Assessment is a little pointless in my opinion, and does not add anything to the experience, it just gets in the way.

Also - here's the thing about the course............

2. Time.

Your course follows the structure and theory that most time management courses do - going over ways to re-think and juggle with time.

It leaves out the most basic thing about time - which I believe to be the most basic fundamental thing.

You cannot make it - it is pre-determined. A minute of my time is the same as a minute of your time. It's what we do with it that makes us different. A lot of "time management" is actually about goals and personal visions, and this needs to be dealt with much more strongly before you even start to try and solve the problems with models.

I think therefore there is an entire introductory section that you have left out - I have only ever seen it in one (staggeringly excellent) course about time management. It is the bit at the beginning that illustrates this fact at a high level. Your ABCD model, (for example), talks about how to allocate time that you spend on e.g email, is it important for me, for someone else etc, How about turning off email and email notifications? That looks at the problem at, I think, a higher level than you address.

You need some more examples that first look at the concept of time rather than how to split it all up. Time has harsh realities associated with it, and may people who take time management courses do not really, fully appreciate the truth about the way it works before trying to apply models and management principles to it.

I hope this does not seem too much like a script from "Dr. Who", however, I think the course needs to be much more impactful to be of real use to learners. Before they seek solutions they really need to get to the bottom of WHY they do not have enough time.

Hope this makes sense and helps in some way.

Thanks for your valuable feedback Phil and Bruce. Really appreciated.

Actually I have been working on this course from last six days and still working on it. It is very hard for me to review my course and point out these little things which you mentioned above. I also don't want to share with those people who doesn't have any idea about Articulate that's why I signed up over here so, i can get desirable feedback from a creative mind like you.

Thanks. I shall do the above changes and re-think on the structure of course..

Thanks Diana for your support. Much Appreciated!

Currently, I am working on its forth version which is evaluation. I shall be happy to share it with you.

PS: You shall find some links are not working. I shall fix it in the next build. Other than that, I would love to see your comments.

Hi Mohammad,Great job, How long you will be involved in developing this e-learning course? You can find many time management applications through online. Most of the applications has free trial option, register it and try it for free. You can find more ideas about the functionalities of those applications. Some of the cloud-based applications like Replicon ( http://goo.gl/yGF1mm ), time tracker, etc., has more features including billing, project management and invoicing, all in just one tool. You can checkout those, so that you will get more suggestions for your innovation. Thanks!
