New to the forum and elearning

Aug 03, 2017

Hi Everyone.
I am new to the forum and elearning. I am in the process of evaluating SL3 for purchase. My husband and I plan to create a WordPress website and have it hosted by a website hosting company. My husband has been studying publishing options for my courses. We think the best option for us is to publish to a LMS. We plan to utilize LMS plugin Learndash on our site. This would allow us to avoid the significant ongoing expense of using a third party LMS course hosting service.
My husband has exchanged emails with Justin Ferriman at Learndash and our understanding is that in order for Learndash to even recognize and correctly display SL3 courses that they must include Scorm or (xAPI) Tin Can data. To go the Tincan Route we plan to use UnCanny Owl’s Tin Canny plugin. To use Tin Canny we would need to include a Learning Record Store (LRS). According to Justin, the best free open source LRS is LearningLocker from LearningLocker.net.
My husband has shared this overall design concept with three web site hosting companies. Because of the data processing demands of LearningLocker these web site hosting companies recommend that we use a VPS or dedicated hosting solution. What has been your experience with Storyline when using Learndash, Tin Canny and LearningLocker with or without (xAPI)? What type of website hosting plan are you using (Shared, VPS or Dedicated)?
Thank you in advance for sharing.

Hi Connie & welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

I know we have a fair number of customers using LearnDash for hosting their Storyline courses. Hopefully some folks with direct experience will chime in with their thoughts.

In the meantime, I did a little digging and found this related discussion thread that has some insightful observations and food-for-thought about LearnDash, Uncanny, xAPI, and using a dedicated server.
