New to using variable and SL2

Jan 18, 2018

I have created a basic variable that counts 0-10 minutes after watching some tutes on 'intro to variables'.   The project's theme is 'take this 10 minute' challenge, but I have a few intro slides before the task starts.  I think I can create the variable to count 10 minutes, but how do I control when to start the timer because the few 3 slides are not part of the task and shouldn't be timed?  I know it will be simple.. I hope.  Thanks awesome ELH community.

Thank you David.

I would share my file, but I haven't implemented anything!. I have created
the project but not installed any timer. After watching this youtube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJrrcxa29qQ, I thought I this is what I
need in my project. It was simple to follow and easy to install.

But its like something in real life. You are told what you have to do, and
then someone says "your time starts now". Then you HIT the timer. I
wanted to install something like this that was triggered from a button or
something. But I thought what if I referenced the variable on a master
slide for a group of slides, and used a different master for the first
intro slides (that didn't have the reference). I thought this could work.

So when the project runs, the first few slides of the intro has NO
reference, but when the timeline gets to say the 4th slide for example the
timer begins. In theory I think this could work. I have to test it later.

Thanks David so much for your response.
