Newbie needs help with Next button. Is it possible to have a slide where "Next" is used as the trigger for all?

Nov 18, 2014

I downloaded a Timeline template where years are displayed as buttons and you click the button to read about what happened that year.  I would like to modify the interaction so that the learner can click Next to step through each year (and Previous will take them to the previous year), and at the end Next will behave as normal ie move on to the next slide.

I tried to do this with a layer for each year's news, and a trigger that says when the user clicks Next, display the layer/year that comes next.  It doesn't work though...  There must be something simple that I'm overlooking here...help?

Hi Sarah!

Thanks for posting your question here in the forums.

The "Next" button is not really intended or optimized to be used to click through layers, it's more meant to move from one slide to the next. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but I think it would require using variables and a lot of triggers.

Your best (and easiest) bet is to create a seperate button on-screen that allows the user to click through the layers (years) of your timeline. You can add also a condition to your "Next" button in the Player that only allows it to become active once they've clicked through each layer (here's a tutorial on how to do that). Hope this helps!
