Object Animation (Fade on) Exit is not working

Apr 16, 2019

I am working on a module on Biotin interference.  I have a blood vessel with molecules that are moving around. I want each of these "molecules to fade out. I set each one on a motion path. I set each to fade on exit. I had it working perfectly and then "poof" it stopped. I cannot figure out why.  Can someone help? I am on an iMac with the latest OS.

Thank you for any wisdom you can shed on this project - I was supposed to have a rapid prototype working by the end of this week - but it's going rather slowly

Hi Nancy,

They do fade out for me (using Windows 10). However, the duration of the fade for most of the objects is fairly long (5-7 seconds) so the effect appears very subtly/slowly. Preview the slide again but wait until all the illustrations of people appear. Then wait another 5-10 seconds or so and you should the molecules start fading out.

Thanks - I set the fade to 3 seconds - I am guessing from what you said, that is 3 seconds after the motion path of the B7 molecule finishes?  I had it set at one point so as the B7 went over the top of the sugar objects they faded out - that is the effect I was trying to achieve - is it possible to do that again?  Thanks so much for your help.

Actually, your molecule objects have a variety of fade out durations, from 0.75 to 7 seconds or so. First thing you might want to do is double check the duration of the fade for each of the molecules.

Next, the molecules are extended to the end of the timeline, meaning they won't fade out until the timeline's end approaches. The fade out is unrelated to the motion path. Storyline can't continue a motion path and begin a fade out at the same time. What you need to do to get very near the effect you're after is to drag the right-side of the time bar in the timeline for each molecule object to the left (you can CTRL+click or SHIFT+click all of them at drag them all at once if you like).

You need to drag them to the left to 15 seconds plus the duration of the fade out you assign (15 seconds is the duration you established for your motion paths). So, for example, if you use a 5 second fade out, drag the object's time bar left to 20 seconds. If you drag the right edge to 15 seconds, the fade out animation will actually begin at 10 seconds because it needs the 5 second duration to do the fade. When an object on a motion path is directed to perform an exit animation before the motion path completes, the motion path will just stop and the exit animation will begin.

Hope that helps!
