Online Picture editor

Jun 18, 2012

Hello All,

Just to let you know of a free resource which I am finding extremely useful working with a very limited budget and strict IT team! It's an online picture editing tool called Pixlr (http://pixlr.com/editor/).

I'm currently using it to create a 'wardrobe' of clothes for a dress code related interaction and am using the tool to make backgrounds transparent as well as change the colour of the clothing items to add variety etc.

It's not massively different from MS Paint but has the benefit of being available online and has a useful help forum for any queries.

Cheers,

Greg

But it can clip/trim around an object to add transparency with it's own wand tool plus it allows you to add layers, and filters!  Just with these features alone, it's much much better than MS Paint!  Almost like a free online version of Photoshop Essentials!  Thank you for sharing Greg!

@Greg... thanks for the share. Useful tools are always good to know about.

I can also recommend http://www.sumopaint.com

Re: Gimp... maybe they've updated their GUI and Help Manual since I first took a stab at it about 6 or 7 years ago, but it made my brain hurt so hard that I bought a cheap version of Photoshop Essentials on Ebay (version 5.0, I think, when 6.0 had just come out) for 50 bucks or so.

If you're not technically inclined and don't have three hundred and fifty hours to troll through tutorials and really only need basic image editing, I do NOT recommend Gimp. OpenSource is great, but like anything, there are trade-offs to be aware of.
