***Out of The Box PowerPoint FX***

Apr 27, 2011

Hi,

David Anderson referred me over here because he thought more people would like to share and collaborate to execute the vision I have for a video I'm currently creating...

The video involves storytelling and showcases a product and there are a few effects I'd like to create in the video with PowerPoint - but most of these effects either, I don't know how to do or I don't know how to do most effectively/efficiently...

The sooner you can shoot out any insight, the BETTER   because I need to get the video done within the next couple days...I'm extremely grateful for any guidance you can give...

Here’s an outline of the effects I’d like to learn how to do:

1)    Bounce/Recoil animation effects

2)    Create a Floating/Hovering Motion for objects and text

3)    Create Perpetual Motion animation effects at different speeds

4)    Some different Exit Animation effects

5)    Moving objects such as an arrow up and down continuously

Attached (in link) http://bit.ly/irhdmc -  you'll find an outline of the FX I'm looking to produce along with video examples and screenshots...

The first effect I'd like to create - is showcased in a Yahoo "Who Knew" video...

Even if you only know how to produce one of these effects, I would really appreciate just one tip.

Ok…I’ll get into a little more detail concerning what I’m talking about along with video’s/screenshots as examples in the attachment http://bit.ly/irhdmc

Thanks so much - I really, really appreciate it!

Tom - thanks!

David - yes I have 2010 PPT...what is that 5 Rules Template? Is that within PowerPoint itself or external?

Something related to Duarte?

Thanks guys...I'll be away for a few hours working on the video but will check back and hopefully we'll be in luck!

The attachment I referred to is now in the link provided - it didn't previously attach with this message so that's the reason for giving the link...

and also in reference to your slide example with instructions on the bounce...

I've done that but it doesn't give the same effect as the Yahoo "who knew" video's or other others mentioned. And I didn't see a bounce option for the zoom out's..............you can do it for fly-in's and that sort of thing but I haven't found a bounce effect for zoom animation.

Hi Nino

not sure what effect you are after to be honest, but you can do zoom in and out using grow and shring, both have a bounce effect option

Phil

Hey Phil,

The exact effects I'm after are in the video's - attached in the PDF...

The Grow/Shrink don't seem to produce the effects either...

Thanks

Phil Mayor

Ah right,, took me some time to find that, the link in the pdf would not link and I could not just copy the link out of the pdf.

You could do the bounce effect in pwerpoint  using motion paths you would need to motion path the bounce as well and switch off the smooth start and end, but it would be easier to do in flash or after effects

If your making avideo you need to look at something like after effects although most of these could be approximated, some of them are going to be a compromise

I have after FX and I edit with Premiere Pro but unless it's super easy to do...I don't want to complicate things by taking much time to figure it out in either of those programs...

It looks to me like a lot of the effects outlined can be done in PowerPoint with tweaks - like the motion path/fly-in bounce-recoil effect can be done in PPT...

but the zoom bounce/recoil doesn't seem to be as duplicatable. In the video's I showed you, maybe with the exception of Patch, it looks like pretty much all those effects were created with either PowerPoint or Apple's Version - Keynote...

It seems like Keynote has a more aesthetic ability than PPT...

Besides PPT...

Do you know how to do some of the effects in Premiere Pro? Is that possible?

Thanks Tom/guys - please...come at me with more and more tips - I'd really appreciate it!

Phil Mayor

sorry never used premier pro, keynote is good, I would say though that 2010 animations are superior

I will have a go tomorrow and see if I can get the bounce working, I really would prefer to do this in flash though

I love keynote but seem to be using powerpoint more

I dont think you could do the hinge effect in ppt

Phil

Linda Lorenzetti

This effect is called kinetic type, here are some more examples http://www.presentationzen.com/presentationzen/2008/11/kinetic-typography-more-examples.html  Some of it can be recreated in PowerPoint, others like the hinge effect wouldn't work.  All I can suggest is get inspired by the examples and play with it.

Nino Pag

Thanks guys...I appreciate it...

Phil - yeh, I don't think any hinge effect is workable in PPT...have a go and let me know (check those rhymes -- looking forward to anything you come up with...let me know as soon as you can tomorrow...

Linda - thanks so much for that link....

I didn't even realize there's a whole world out there of kinetic typography...lot of cool stuff. Thanks a lot for that!

Let me know if you have any advice in terms of how to create some dynamic kinetic typography in PPT and if you have any specific advice in terms  of the video examples in the attachment/link...

Thanks guys! Looking forward to more comments and more specifics on how to create the effects outlined in the attachment/link!

Nino Pag

Hey Tom,

well, I can get a somewhat similar bounce effect on fly-in's/motion paths...that's one thing...

in terms of the hovering effect, I just custom motion path animation and draw up and down lines and alter the duration for the effect...

that's really it...let me know on what you come up with - I'd really appreciate it!

Also let me know if you have any other resources to suggest

Guys, thanks for the help a couple weeks ago...

I finished the mammoth video project I was working on regarding these effects and I'm glad to say that I figured out how to do virtually all of them.

Basically the two that I didn't replicate are the light bulb effect and the fast/slow/fast continuous movement. I talked with the video creator that created the light bulb effect in the video I showed you and he said those were actually light bulbs that they filmed attached to strings to create the effect.

The fast/slow/fast continuous movement...I didn't try to mess with it too much but I was connecting motion paths and trying to time it just right but it didn't turn out smooth so I just cut it...

I figured out most of these effects thanks to the suggestion of David Anderson who suggested looking at the PPT Template Duarte released.

That helped a ton - so thanks so much David! I really appreciate it! It took my game to a whole new level.

I also want to thank Linda for showing me the world of typography...gave me some good stuff to work with.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions...very grateful!
