Which do you prefer and why? Is one better than the other?
I just finished a course that asked for closed captioning and I also had notes (since that's what I've been using for months). Seems to me that it's a bit redundant.
Closed captioning all the way. With closed captioning, you can synchronize the captions to the audio and the position of the captions is in a better place for users to view the content on the screen and read the captions at the same time.
With notes, you either have them open to the left or right which draws the eye away from the content on the screen or you have them in a tab which the user has to click on each slide to open the notes.
The notes were a fine option before CC was introduced but are now a little limited.
