Power point: Intersect shape

Jun 29, 2012

I'm trying to intersect 2 shapes. One has an image on it, and the other, a smaller one, is the part I want to get from the image.

Problem is I cannot seem to get the intersection to have the background fill of the bigger shape :-P

Since I wish to have a few cuts from the bigger image, and the exact locations and ratio of shape-image are crucial - intersection is the only option I see (w/o using Photoshop).

Hi Efrat,

Instead of using the Intersect tool, have you tried drawing a shape around the item you want to cut, and then fill the shape with your image? If you use the "Tile picture as texture" option on the picture fill, and then use the Offset X/Offset Y values as necessary, you can usually get a nice clean extraction of just the part of the image you want to show. Kind of like what Montse shows in this screencast: https://player.vimeo.com/video/204870467

Thanks Jeanette,
I am aware of this techniques, but in this case it is crutial to have it all very accurate (an identical between shapes), which is not possible using the drawing tool.

What I did in the end is put the image as a background color, drw on it the shapes I wanted and duplicate them to different areas of the picture, then change the shapes fill to be identical to the slide background. And finally - saved as picture.

Anooying, but did the work.
