Hi Sylvia. Yes, it is possible to generate a printed certificate from your Storyline 360 course. All you need is some html and a line of javascript.
Another community member recently posed a very similar question about printing certificates and I'm linking to that here since step by step instructions, and the javascript, are included in that reply.
Thanks Trina. That "all you need..." is a bit deceptive if one is not a coder. Is it possible to generate the html by publishing the single certificate slide from SL2 and then viewing the info on the developer tab of Firefox or the equivalent in Chrome or ... ?
Otherwise this is a wash and 360 does not have inherent in it the capability of a "print" button to print a particular slide when the file is published, correct?
Hi Sylvia. You're correct that Storyline doesn't currently support the printing of certificates—hence the need for some html & javascript. I'm not a coder either and found the notion of HTML & javascript a bit intimidating too, but I've found the instructions provided by the many helpful folks here in the community we're spot on and that it didn't take too long for me to sort out.
An even more basic approach (and perhaps what you were suggesting originally?) would be to mock up a certificate slide at the end of your course, and simply instruct your learners to hit CNTRL+P (on PC) or CMD+P (on a Mac) to do a print screen. You'll have to test this with your browser to see if it will work, but as long as you've published your course with HTML5 output, it should work in most browsers. I just did a very quick test with a Storyline 360 course of mine, viewing it in both Chrome and Safari and the screen print of my slide came out just fine. One big caveat: using the print screen function will capture and print everything on the screen—including the course player and web browser.
Hi Trina, for now I've sorted it out by using a link to a fillable PDF file that users can fill in and either download or print. It's not quite as classy as it requires the user to fill in the information, but for now till I have the opportunity to master that html and javascript route. You are right the community is amazing!!
If you are using storyline 3 or 360, I have a solution for you.
It is possible to "hack" the player with some javascript to put a print button in the player to print any slide. I'll post the code Monday when I am on my computer.
Trina, for now I've settled on a link to a pdf of the certificate which can be filled in and printed. Way less than ideal, but I'm experimenting with javascript in my next course.
Owen, it worked :)! I did learn that you have to publish to HTML as the primary display in order to get the button down by the volume. I was publishing to Flash with HTML backup and the print page at the top worked, but not the button by the volume. Anyway, this is absolutely fantastic! THANKS...see you at DevLearn DV

I've been wondering what approach you landed on, Sylvia. Thanks for taking the time to circle back and update us on your workaround!
