question about making a question pool adaptive in a particular manner

Sep 19, 2017

I have a question from a client that stumped me.  This is regarding a course developed in Storyline 360.

This course has both formative quizzes at the end of lessons and a summative examination at the end of the course.  The lesson quiz questions recur in the question pool for the summative examination.

The clients wants this functionality: when a student initially provides an incorrect answer to a lesson quiz question, that particular question should recur for that student in the summative examination. The incorrect answer has to lead to tagging that particular question in the exam pool, so the question is selected for that student and presented in the exam.

I was talking to a software engineer about this, and she was saying that an adaptive test engine could do this (and more), but does Storyline has this functionality?

Thank you!

Robert

Hi Robert,

I think you could likely achieve this. Here's what I would try:

1. Create a True/False variable for each question with an initial value of false.

2. Add a trigger to each incorrect layer that changes the value of the associated trigger to true.

3. Add a trigger to the same question in the evaluation and that shows that question if the trigger is equal to true.

Let me know if that works for you! :)
