How do I reset a slide to its initial state after a user clicks the next button? Ex. User is on slide 5 they click “next” and jumps to slide 6 – at that point I need slide 5 to reset to the original design so if they click “previous” the user will see the original design without any of the interactions completed.

On the layers tab, click the base layer options. You should see an option "on revisit", select reset to initial state.

You need to change in properties setting.
I share some screenshots for same.
By default setting is at revisit time automatically decide you need change to reset to initial state.
If you use any variables in your interaction, you'll want to add a trigger resetting them to the initial state.
