Screen Recording Software Suggestions Needed...

Oct 14, 2011

I’m looking for suggestions on screen recording software we can consider purchasing.  It must work fine inserted into the Articulate software... …Quizmaker, Presenter, etc… and with a LMS platform.

Not the screenr “free” one. It only allows for a limited time on recording. We are preparing to record different car rental training transactions for our new hire program and we need a screen recorder that...

  1. Records the actions being done. Like the mouse clicks and such.
  2. Is able to “bookmark” like Articulate “bookmarks” if the user needs to leave and return to the session.
  3. Can add audio
  4. Can add annotations
  5. Can record as long as the training being displayed needs it to… (Like if you are showing how to format an excel document…the screen recording software will not limit this demonstration to 15 minutes.)
  6. Most importantly, can be inserted into Articulates software…Quizmaker, Presenter, etc.

I’d like to know what others are using when recording various training screen demo programs...

 Thanks,

My Screen Recorder is one of the best screen recording tools. Records your screen and audio from the speakers or your voice from the microphone - or both simultaneously. Records the mouse clicks with a highlight, easy to use, and records directly to standard AVI or WMV format files.  Download here: http://www.deskshare.com/screen-recorder.aspx

I use both Camtasia and Captivate. If you are looking to save time and money, Camtasia. If cost is not a problem and you want to be able to do some very creative things...Captivate. There are good reasons to use either one!

Thanks Stefanie. One more question...have you used both with Articulate? The software we purchased previously (Wondershare Demo Creator) did not work with Articulate.

Pat, have you considered using Storyline for screen recording? If seamless integration with Presenter/Quizmaker/Engage is a priority, it's definitely worth looking into. Otherwise, I've used Jing (http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html) in the past - the free version has a limit of 5 mins but another TechSmith product Snagit (http://www.techsmith.com/snagit.html) does not have this restriction. It has a free 30 day trial and costs about 50 bucks.
