Screen Sizes in Presenter and Storyline
Jun 02, 2012
I have used Articulate for quite some time and I downloaded and started using Storyline today. However I have a long standing issue with Articulate Presenter and I was disappointed to see the same issue creep into Storyline as well.
Why am I limited to a screen size of 720 x 540?
I am sure that in these days of HD monitors and smartphones having screen resolutions better than 720 x 540, we owe it to the learners to provide learning experiences that are closer to real life. A screen size of 720 x 540 is a big inconvenience. Consider these cases:
- I want to showcase a screenshot of a web page in an Engage Interaction. However the screenshot taken on a 1024 x 768 screen needs to be crunched within the Engage window. Mind you, 1024 x 768 is the second lowest resolution I can get on my monitor which is capable of displaying 1920 x 1080.
- If I want to have images in my course why must I necessarily resize them?
I am sure there are workarounds to these issues and I am open to trying them out. However I would expect someone like Articulate to realize that 720 x 540 is simply too small a screen size and too little real estate for eLearning.
Sadly, even with Storyline they seem to continue with the trend.

Storyline can have any slide size, under the design tab see you can change the slide size. If you want to use on an ipad I would stick with the default
1920x1080 is huge for a course, and be aware the menus, will look really small (you cannot edit the text size
Hey thanks Phil. You don't know, but this is a BIG win for me. I have been frustrated longer with the size limitations in Presenter than I care to remember.
I think this will also be fixed in the new Studio 12
Hi Phil. Do you know of a way I can go in and change the preset to something else 1024/768 as the default
thanks
