Screencasts won't pause in timeline preview

Oct 28, 2016

Bare with me on this one. It's kind of confusing to describe.

When I'm working on a project and import a video the timeline preview allows me to fast forward, click on a time and thus I can see what is on the screen at that point in time.

(example: at :58 seconds I want to put a red box or graphic over the video but I need to see what is on the screen at that point in the video in order to see where to place the graphic. On the timeline I can click on :58 seconds and on the screen the video will advance to a still image on that point in time)

HOWEVER, I have a screencast that I edited in Adobe Premiere, exported as MP4, imported into storyline, but when I click on a point in time in the timeline preview pane...nothing. It only stays on the opening image. It won't advance the screen image. I attached a pic of what I'm talking about.

Thoughts?

Hi Adam,

Like you mentioned, it is quite hard to visualize exactly what you are describing, but from the sounds of it you're experiencing difficulty getting an updated preview of the video you imported in the timeline.

I tried to replicate the issue on my system and couldn't unfortunately, but I might suggest that maybe you re-export the video and insert it again to the module? Because the final video you have put into storyline is MP4 it should behave like any other video file, so its unusual that its not playing nice.

As a worst case scenario where you can't get it to preview at all, maybe run through the video and note the points in time that you want to add objects and do it 'blind'? Though I would hope that reinserting a new version should fix it. I haven't had exactly the same problem, but a new export has fixed 'broken' videos for me before, and especially as you are saying storyline normally works fine, the video would be my first suspect in this case!
