Seeking Feedback on Storyline Design

Sep 22, 2020

Hi everyone. My client's goal is to assess learners' ability to interpret specific medical imagery and help them improve their skill in it over time. He has a library of hundreds of videos and wants to ask the same multiple choice questions for each of these, hoping that learners will get more accurate the more modules they are exposed to / receive feedback from.

He wanted the video always showing while the learner could look at the quiz and go through it, and potentially go back and change their answers while taking it. I tried to think of a way to do this in Rise but couldn't come up with anything to meet these requests so I went with Storyline.

The videos will be embedded from Vimeo in an iframe on one side of the screen. The test is in a scrolling panel on the left - each question has a button set below it (so only one can be selected per question) which then sets a text variable, which speaks to the question bank that will run when the user "submits" the test. So if they click the button for option B for Q1, the Q1 variable will set to "option B" and then when the actual test runs, I use a trigger to select the radial button for "option B". Once Storyline goes through all the questions (which I will hide with a black box for the actual program), the results come up. Then users can see a table of their answers versus the correct answers and revisit the video if they wish. I think from an instructional perspective it might be better to get in the moment feedback after each decision, but maybe not also. If you have thoughts on that let me know.

To add complexity - the client wants learners to have access to dashboard of their results over time so they can track their improvement. Our current LMS doesn't have anything like that so we're exploring options to run an automatic report from the LMS and feed that data into something like Tableu. If you have any thoughts there as well I'd love to hear them!

I truly appreciate any input - I think I know what I'm doing in Storyline sometimes but there are so many people using it for different things; I think it's great this community exists where we can share and ask for help.

I took all the actual medical content out and put in placeholders to share just the basic function and layout and attached the .story file as well. Let me know if you have any questions!
