Seeking IDs and Supervisors of IDs

Dec 18, 2011

Happy Sunday everyone!

I'm an instructional designer by day and grad student by day/night/weekend, and I would like to graduate soon! To do so I have to write a dissertation - something that's been on my plate for almost a year. I'm hoping some of you can help me out. As a graduate student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I am conducting a study to explore the qualifications, academic histories, and employment experiences of instructional designers in higher education - specifically in public four-year institutions in the midwest.

How you can help:

  • I'm looking for IDs and supervisors of IDs to spend approximately one hour in audio-recorded interview sessions. FYI, so far the interviews have been no longer than 35 minutes.
  • If you are an instructional designer and are willing to share your resume with me, please send it along. I will NOT be using any personal information in my research - I'm just looking to build a database of skills, qualifications, and experiences that I can match to existing job descriptions for IDs.
  • If you are a supervisor of an ID and are willing to share any job descriptions or position definitions for IDs with me, please send it along. Again, I will not be using any personal information or information that would identify a specific institution. I would like to build a database of expected skills, qualifications, and experiences that I can match to the resumes of designers.

The purpose of this multiple case study is to investigate the roles of IDs through interviews conducted with instructional designers and supervisors of IDs. A critical analysis of the qualifications and employment experiences of instructional designers at institutions of higher education would provide a current and specific look at this unique population, which will be of great value to higher education administrators, instructional designers, and other organizations employing instructional designers.

You may contact my supervisor, Dr. Marilyn Grady, at (402) 472-0974 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for further clarification or should you have any concerns about my study. If you agree to participate in this study, I will send you formal invitation, which I will ask that you please sign and date where indicated, make a copy for your own records, and return the letter. Upon receiving your signed letter, I will contact you to schedule an interview at a time convenient for you.

I thank you in advance for considering to participate in this study. Like I said, I would love to graduate soon and the only thing between me and that joyous event is my dissertation. I hope you can help!

All the best,
