Single file output
Feb 25, 2015
I created a course for an internal customer in Storyline. Though we discussed it up front, it was revealed after completion that a single file output of the published course was a requirement due to where the course would be posted. Am I correct that there is NO way to run an interactive Storyline file from a single file? I tried converting to MP4 but the audio degraded a bit and the transitions didn't sync perfectly. Any other suggestions? Any other Adobe (or non Adobe) products you've used to create non-interactive courses with synced audio but only a single file output? These are 5 minute "teaser" videos. We weren't able to just copy/paste the elements from Storyline to Captivate, so we are instead having to create the course in PPT and convert to MP4 there. Or at least that's what we are trying now. TIA

Hi J,
Just to clarify, where specifically is the course supposed to be posted?

Alex,
I don't actually know that. They just told is they can't use a directory style output, only a single file.

Articulate will only publish to a multi file output. Captivate will publish to a single sf but you would have to rebuild the entire course.
You can record the course using something like camtasia
Correct, there is no way to run a Storyline interactive course from a single file package.
If all you want is a "movie" of the course, Phil has it right (as usual). Record someone navigating through the course. Otherwise, re-author in a different style... which given the change in delivery method may be the right choice.
Not to pimp a competing product but there are a few that will produce a single file. One that comes to mind is Lectora Snap from Trivantis. iSpring might also output to a single swf.
If you don't have access to Camtasia, Replay (bundled free with Storyline) does a nice job of recording screen casts.
