Sound on base layer continue as other layers show

Mar 28, 2014

Hi all,

Not sure if this is doable in Storyline or not, but I want to have some sound continue playing on the base layer as the other layers on the slide advance automatically.

Can this be done?  I know the settings on the layers go through visibility options, but I'm wondering if this can be achieved through a trigger and/or variable?

Thanks in advance for the guidance!

Depending on how you want the audio to run you can add audio independently on each layer. So you can either have one continuous track or splice it how you like.

You can copy and paste the audio to individual layers - or you could use a piece of software like Audacity to create smaller chunks of audio and add them to each layer.

Lastly an option is to use cue points and create triggers that will start the audio from various cue points on your layers. I have only ever done this by creating shapes off screen and allowing them to be synced to the audio.

I just tested this and was able to get it to work, although there might be an easier way.

1. On the layers you want to show while the first layer audio continues, make sure you don't have them set to hide the base layer.

2. On the main layer, create an item that appears in the timeline when you want the new layer to appear. (It can be off screen.)

3. Create a trigger that says to show the new layer when the state of the object you added is normal.
