Storage Best Practices

Jun 24, 2019

Hi there,

I'm new to working on a team using Articulate 360 though I am familiar with Storyline 2 and 3.

For 360, with different content creators in different cities on a team, what are the best practices for:

  1. course storage and sharing?
  2. content sharing for reuse?

I suspect it's something like storing projects on a network drive or server accessed via FTP and/or to Articulate 360 and then pulling the content into the LMS. Is that right or is there a better way?

Does Articulate 360 automatically backup content? If so how does that work?

Shared templates should be stored as team slides, yes?

Hi Stefanie,

You'll want to store your Storyline 360 courses the same way you've been storing your Storyline 2/3 courses. Storyline 360 is still a desktop app and therefore the courses are stored locally, not on the cloud. These courses are not automatically backed up.

For course templates, yes Team Slides is the best way to go!

If you create courses in Rise 360, they will be stored on the cloud and are accessible in account of the course author as well any collaborators. Rise 360 courses are autosaved whenever changes are made.

I hope that answers your questions! :) If not, let me know.

Thanks, Allison! :)

That does make sense.  So for collaboration it would be best to save to a network drive or server via FTP and then work on the course? Can several people work on a course at the same time or should that not happen? So far i've always been the only one working on a course but this gig is a little different, so I'm curious.

I've never used Rise thus far. Do you have a good article that goes over which situation you're better off using Rise and when to use Storyline?

Thanks again!

Hi Stefanie,

It's fine to store your files on a network drive or server, but you'll want to copy them to your local hard drive to work on them to avoid corruption or other issues. Here's an article that talks about some best practices.

Only one person can work on a Storyline 360 project at a time. However, multiple people can work on Rise 360 courses at once (on different lessons) if you have an Articulate 360 Teams subscription.

Here's an article that talks about when to use Rise 360 vs. Storyline 360.

I hope that's helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions. :)
