Storyline Project Troubleshooting

Dec 06, 2017

Hi everyone - apologies upfront for this long explanation...

I'm wrapping up a massive project - an audit - that I've put into an interactive Storyline project.  All of it works except for one section... I've tested it, and looked at the triggers and layers but it just seems to keep repeating the same issue.

In the section in question, the user navigates to a graph for each region that my company has a presence in.  Image 1Once they click on the region's "bar graph", they're taken to a "monthly breakout for that region" - a second graph.

Behind the Scenes

This is how I have everything set up

  1. Every region's bar graph is setup as it's own variable (e.g., UK JAN Hotspot, UK FEB Hotspot, etc.), and set to False.  The slide also has a trigger to set the condition to True, when the user clicks the bar graph.

Once they click on the month "bar graph", they will be navigated to a third slide, that shows what course categories are trained for that month.

Behind the Scenes

I have each region's monthly breakout set as their own layer.  When that region's vairable (e.g., UK) becomes True, then when they get to this slide, they should only see the UK monthly breakout.  Then, when they go back to the regional breakout (e.g., UK, CAN, etc.) and click another region, they should then see that region's monthly breakout - not the UK's... but that is what's happening.  Whatever region you select first, is the region you see when you click any other.

I've checked the order of the triggers, the layers, the variables and I think they're all right.  I cleared out the cache on my browser to see if that was the issue... but it still happened.

Now things work great if you just click one regions' bar (e.g., UK).  But, if you click Back and then click another region (e.g., Midwest), it will still show the above image - the UK's January Course Breakout.

I've included my base file, without branding.  To get to the issue in question, select the option: Number of Courses Trained Anually

I hope y'all can help me figure out what's going on with this because it's driving me batty.

Thanks.

Hi Daniel,

I tried to replicate your issue and I actually wasn't able to- it looks like it's working!

Here's what I did:
- Access the Courses Trained Annually by Region section
- Click "UK"
- Click "April" -> UK April Schedule displays
- Click "Back"
- Click "Canada"
- Click "Sept" -> CAN September Schedule displays

I tried it several times with different regions and months and always got the correct layer displayed.

Does the same issue occur when you publish?

[also just FYI there's still branding on the Main Layer of the Base Layer slide, in case you meant to remove it ;)]

Hi LJ!

Thanks so much for the feedback.  It must have been an issue with my browser cache or something, then.  Also, thanks for the compliment!  I love to try and make my Storyline files have a bit of zing... so I'm happy that you liked that.  Thanks to your co-worker too.
