Testing Storyline Capabilities vs. Other E-Learning Software

Mar 13, 2014

Hello!

My company is deciding whether to go with Storyline as our primary e-learning software, go with another e-learning software, or perhaps go with both. Although we've adopted new software in the past, we haven't really had a systematic, well-thought-out process we've used to select software.

My thinking was perhaps it would be helpful to have a small group of testers from the target audience become familiar with the basics of Storyline and the other software, then re-create the same small e-learning sample using each software. And while using each software, capturing their thoughts on where they had issues, what worked well, etc.

When you tested Storyline vs. other software, how did you conduct the user testing? Did you ask users to give feedback on specific questions, or did you leave the questions more open-ended? Or both?

And if anyone has an example of documentation (checklist, etc.) they gave to users when testing software that I could perhaps model, that would be helpful.

Thanks!

David

Hi David, i went through this same exercise when i was asked to look at other e-learning software instead of the one we had (Jackdaw).

I compared Lectora Inspire, Adobe E-Learning Suite & Storyline.

I got these all on free trial periods to do what i needed.

I opted for Storyline in the end for its ease of use but freedom to take the course in whatever direction you wanted using some of the more complex triggers, conditions etc...

I made the same course in all three and compared the time it took me, look of finished product, ease of use, advanced features.

I don't have any of the documents i put together or the courses as got rid of them after we purchased Storyline. Sorry.

Hope this helps.

Shaun.
