This icon may have broken my layers / triggers

Oct 10, 2019

I spent the better part of yesterday and this morning trying to figure out why my layers weren't displaying properly. First, I ensured I had the latest update. Then, I grouped, and ungrouped. I deleted and recreated shapes, triggers, layers, and then whole slides. Out of desperation, I even started a brand new file.

Then I thought, "Maybe it's an icon...?" Tested with and without each icon, and sure enough, when I deleted this specific icon (attached - keyword: streamline), everything worked! Not sure what's in it, but it's the ONE thing that was there when my layers didn't display. Now it's not there, and everything works fine.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi Katie. Hm. That's pretty strange. Glad you got it sorted out! Can you tell me more about your layers not displaying properly? What exactly was happening? Was this an icon you downloaded from Content Library 360 or was it part of a Content Library 360 template? If either of those is the case, I can see if our team can reproduce that behavior.

Hi Katie!

I was fighting with intermittent layer operation this weekend. My bad... I was triggering on shapes and shapes with images in them. I finally started using hotspots on top of the objects and not relying on user clicks on the objects themselves to launch a layer-opening trigger. Working fine now. Yay hotspots.

 ignore my previous post above...
Ray Cole just replied to me in another thread about triggering layers... I see the light. I needed to make the box 100% transparent and solid. probably saving me 200+ hotspots. Thanks Ray!

Before, it did not work well with no fill and dashed line border. The clickable boundaries were also all over the screen for the box, oddly, instead of just within the box. 100% transparent and solid. done and done. and avoid Katie's insidious icon!

Hi Trina,

Thank you for your response.

I downloaded the icon from Content Library 360. A screenshot of it is attached in my original post.

It's hard to explain what's happening with the layers. It appears that the triggers and layers associated with the other two icons on the slide are working fine (until I click on the trigger associated with the "streamline" icon). Once I click on the trigger associated with the "streamline" icon, items that are supposed to show don't, and then some items that are supposed to be hidden, display (even for the "working" triggers). What does / doesn't display changes depending on which trigger you click first.  Dumbfounding.

I've attached the slide so you can play around with it.

Hi Katie!
Wow - very erratic behavior. It looks like the icons are made up of many little pieces. Would it be better to take a screen shot of all the pieces that make up the icon and use that instead? I started doing that and still got erratic behavior when trying to call up the layers. I thought the object name choice could be the same as long as they were not in the same layer. I wonder, since I had such a hard time with "Unfilled" boxes lately, if it might work with all boxes filled with white...
