Triggers and States Issue

Mar 02, 2020

Hi everyone,

I seem to be hitting my head against a brick wall at the moment, and i was wondering if anyone can help?

I have a Storyline 360 slide, where an image has 20 states and as the variable increases there is a trigger to change the state. This was all working before the weekend, however when i was trying to add a new button to the slide it was stopping everything from working so i deleted the button and it was working all ok. Now, today it won't work at all and all i have done is open the last save file which was working.

So what should be happening? As a built in score variable increase an image will change state to represent a bar filling up. I have states for 5% increments which means there are 20 states. The trigger is "Change state of "Percentage" to "10" when timeline starts if "Variable" is between "10" & "14"

I have a trigger starting at 5 going all the way to 100.

What am i doing wrong or is there a better fool proof way of building this?

Hi Adam,

Have you gone through the troubleshooting tips outlined in this article: 3 Tips for Troubleshooting Advanced Storyline 360 Interactions? If you have and still aren't able to figure out what's going on, the quickest way to resolve this issue is to have our Support Team take a look. You can submit a case here.

In the meantime, if there's anything else I can do to help, please let me know!

Thanks Allison, I have just raised a case as i am still non the wiser as to why it won't work. I've tried the following:

- Deleting object and starting again

- Re-ordering the triggers

- Changing the initial state from hidden to normal

- Changing the trigger start from Timeline Starts to Timeline Reaches

- Checking the Results variable has a figure set before and during the slide showing

- Using my own variable and manipulating the result score

Results SlideI wanted to update everyone and anyone who comes across this post. I was able to rectify my issue last week after spending some considerable amount of time changing, tweaking, rebuilding etc.

To find the issue was staring me in the face all along. The issue was with the triggers i had created. There were 20 triggers that would change the state of an idividual shape each time the Results Variable increased 5%.

Example Change state of "Shape A" to "10" when "Timeline Starts" on this slide. If "Results Variable A" value is between "10 & 14"

The next trigger would then start at 15. What i overlooked initially was, when the results came in at 14.48, it was between my triggers so wasn't being picked up. So by changing the last figure to be "14.99" it now works a charm every time. The image i have included shows the thermometer in full swing and it even changes colour from red to green when they reach the pass mark.
