Updating Screenshots

Jul 11, 2014

Hello everyone!

I'm preparing an extended software training program, with many courses and lessons.

I was wondering if anyone here has a solution or best practices for working with a UI/screenshots that get updated often.

Is there a way to have the screenshots embedded dynamically and then all I'll need to do is keep a single screenshot library up to date and republish each of the projects and upload online?

How would this be done?

I'm currently working with Articulate Studio 09. Considering moving on to Studio13 or Storyline.

Thanks!

Many thanks for the prompt responses!

The screenshots appear multiple times in various projects.

I wish there was a way to embed the images so that when I hit "publish" they synch automatically with the image in the "library" folder.

I understand from the responses that an option like this is not currently available.

Peace,

Yael

Hi Yael,

I've vey never tried it, but you may be able to host you images on a server and embed them as a web object. However, you'd be really limited with what you could do with that image from and editing standpoint in Storyline. I honestly don't know if there's an easy way to accomplish what your trying to achieve.

Unfortunately, I think you'd be walking on a thin line of compromising the user experience for this type of convenience.

There is no easy way to do this, I don't know of any authoring tool that would do this easily. You could use HTML pages that draw images from a pool rather than an authoring tool

I've put in a feature request for this functionality in Storyline as what you describe would be very useful not just with screen shots but with any kind of images that might be updated or modified as a project develops or is updated in the future. What you describe is how page layout programs, e.g. InDesign handles images. When properly done, all of the images are linked to rather than embedded. This allows for smaller file size, faster opening and saving of the file, and the ability to have teams work in parallel on a project. For example a graphic designer could be cleaning up an image while the instructional designer works on the content. When the graphic designer is finished the new image is automatically swapped into the Storyline file.

It's a very powerful feature that I wish Articulate would include — at least as an option — in their products.
