Using Dials In Freeform Quiz Question

Apr 25, 2020

I'm working on a simulation for a two-way radio.  The student needs to select the correct channel by rotating the dial to channel 1 - 6 which is TAC 1.  I need to score the selection correct or incorrect.  I've looked at convert to freeform, but none of the choices seem to fit.  I've tried several variations of "variables" and state changes and came up with the test file attached.  I'm using a variable that changes if the correct channel is selected, that let's me control advancing the slide.  Is there a way to use that type variable to score the interaction and report to a results slide that can be stored in an LMS?

Secondly, is there an easier way to setup this kind of interaction.  Breaking new ground here and have several of these to develop.

Thanks in advance.

One issue fix leads to another.  There's now an issue with the dial control.   I have a Try Again Layer added.  If I select the wrong answer and submit, I get the "Try Again"  Layer, which works are expected.  Back on the base layer, when I click and hold on the dial and rotate to a new selection, then release the mouse button, it does not  "release" control of the dial.  As I move the mouse around the screen, the dial continues to move.  If i select the correct answer I then get an error message saying I need to answer the question.  I've set the slide to reset to initial state, but the dial does not reset, it remains on the wrong selection.  I've added a trigger to reset the dials variable to zero when the timeline starts.  That doesn't work either.  Think I'm missing something simple.  I've never seen dial continue to rotate when you release the mouse button, so I'm stumped.  Appreciate any feedback.  Sample file attached.
