Utility meter reading training

Oct 23, 2018

Hello helpful people!

Pardon the wall of text. I'm working on a quiz where new and experienced meter readers can look at an image of an electricity meter with dials and enter the usage reading into a numeric graded question in Quizmaker. They are graded on time and accuracy. The quiz is designed to have the learner enter the number on the dials from Left to Right for their answer. The problem is, there's a 50-50 split among meter readers as to whether it's "right" to read the dials from Left to Right, or from Right to Left. The computer they use in the field is able to record readings either direction. I would like to emulate that computer for the R2L folks, but have an issue I can't figure out. Is there a way that Quizmaker (or another 360 program) can be set up to display the reverse number than what the learner types in? I don't mind setting up a whole new quiz/presentation where all of the correct answers are reversed, but I want there to be an APPEARANCE of the number being recorded left to right on the screen as they type.

Example: Correct read for a 4 dial meter is 3186. A L2R person would enter 3186 and get it correct. A R2L person would enter it as 6813. Their computer in the field would keep the cursor locked on the right of the number field and add digits to the left of the previous one they entered, making the read 3186 again. Can I do anything to give the appearance of this example within a graded quiz?

Hopefully this makes a little bit of sense. An image of the meter from the example is attached.

Thanks!
